This year the World Bodypainting Festival had to postpone the World Bodypainting Festival edition to 2021. However, due to the overwhelming interest from the bodypainting community, they created the WBF 2020 COVID Edition. The online competition took place from July 6th to July 10th, complete with sponsors, awards, and prizes.
The WBF 2020 COVID Crisis Edition was supported by Tourismusregion Klagenfurt am Worthersee, Kryolan Professional Makeup, Karnten – Its my life, FH Karnten – Carinthia University of Applied Sciences, Asia Colors, On Makeup Magazine, The Powder Group, Snazaroo, KT1 Privatfernsehen, and Base Formula.
At this special online competition, winners were selected in 6 categories, including 3 world awards. 613 incredible artists from 55 nations in 17 time zones around the world participated in the festival. The competitors were allowed 8, 5, or 3 hours for painting depending upon the category they were participating in. The images had to be sent in before midnight, so that the next day in Klagenfurt at the lake Worthersee, the southern part of Carinthia Austria, the jury could judge the work. On Saturday, July 11th, 2020 the winners were announced from the groundbreaking 5-day competition.
The WBF 2020 COVID Edition was groundbreaking on many levels. It was the first time in their 23-year history that the competition was not in person. It was also groundbreaking for the nation of Mexico.
Noe Duran from Mexico impressed the judges with his expressive work, overall composition, and a definition of themes. He is the first online world champion in the history of the World Bodypainting Festival, the first champion from Mexico, and in the category of facepainting the top 3 winners were all from Mexico.
