The London College of Fashion is staging an exhibition that showcase the inspiration and methods behind the beauty looks created for Alexander McQueen Shows. Warpaint: Alexander McQueen and Make-Up spotlight key make-up looks from the designer’s catwalk collaboration with makeup-up artists such as Val Garland, Peter Philips, Topolino and Sharon Dowsett. Garland noted all the direction for the make-up came from McQueen’s “point of view.” “It had to be absolutely specific, he knew when it was just right, when it came as near as possible to his own vision of the look. There was no right or wrong, just his vision,” she said.
There are 22 looks on display from 13 of Alexander McQueen’s collections from 1997 to 2010. They explore such themes as Amplified – Where facial features are obscured and exaggerated. Deviated – which focuses on body makeup, and Stripped – looks are so subtle it intensifies the meaning of the collection. All looks are showcased on silicone masks created by London College of Fashion’s prosthetics students.
LCF also collaborated with a digital creative studio Holition, which will allow visitors to virtually try on three make-up looks from McQueen’s shows. One of which is a butterfly-wing design that were painted on models face for the designer’s Spring 2008 show La Dame Bleue.
The exhibition held at LCF’s Fashion Space Gallery at Oxford Circus, is also hosting master classes, talks and demonstrations in conjunction with the exhibit.
The exhibit runs through August 7, 2015, and admission is free. For more information, visit fashionspacegallery.com.
