INDUSTRY NEWS: THE WINNERS – 2020 MAKE-UP ARTISTS & HAIR STYLISTS GUILD AWARDS

The community of IATSE Local 706, celebrated the best in the industry in an evening filled with community and craft this week at the 7th annual Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild (MUAHS) Awards! Winners were announced in 23 categories of film, television, commercials and live theater, during a formal gala at the NOVO by Microsoft at L.A. Live Downtown on Saturday night, January 11, 2020.

The event, which celebrates excellence in artistry in makeup and hairstyling in the film, theater and television categories, awarded the best of the best including Vivian Baker, Kazu Hiro, Cristina Waltz and Richard Redlefsen for Bombshell, Nicki Ledermann, Tania Ribalow, and Sunday Englis for The Joker, Anne Nosh Oldham, Elaine Browne, and Marc Pilcher for Downton Abbey, Makeup Artists Debbie Zoller, Dave Presto, and Jackie Risotto for Fosse/Verdon, and Louie Zakarian, Amy Tagliamonti, Jason Milani and Tom Denier for Saturday Night Live.

This year’s Distinguished Artisan Award went to award-winning actor Sir Patrick Stewart, best known for his work in the Star Trek and X-Men series, The award celebrating his prolific acting career on stage and screen spanning nearly six decades. Presenting the Distinguished Artisan Award to Stewart were Brent Spiner, star of Star Trek: Picard and Star Trek: Next Generation; James MacKinnon, Emmy Award-winning Makeup and Prosthetic Artist, Star Trek franchise including Star Trek: Picard. The awards also paid tribute to Emmy-winning makeup artist Thomas Burman, honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award for makeup, presented by makeup artist Vincent Van Dyke. celebrating his award-winning career in motion pictures and television for over five decades.

Martin Samuel, Oscar nominated film and celebrity hair stylist also received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Hair Styling applauding his career spanning the last 40 years and credited with more than 60 films including the Pirates of the Caribbean series.
