A night of full-on Hollywood glitz and glamour, honoring top creatives in 23 categories of film, television, commercials and live theater, took place this past Sunday, February 19, at this year’s Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists Guild Awards (MUAHS). The event was held at The Novo by Microsoft at L.A Live before an audience of guild members, industry executives, media and fans. The 2017 awards were presided over by Local 706 President Sue Cabral-Ebert, Business Representative, Tommy Cole and hosted by comedian Loni Love (The Real).
Winners in the makeup category included films such as La La Land, Nocturnal Animals, Suicide Squad, Hail Caesar! and Star Trek Beyond. Television category winners included Westworld, Dancing With the Stars,” Game of Thrones, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. Apart from the 23 category awards, Ryan Murphy, four-time Emmy Award-winning producer, received the Distinguished Artisan Award, presented by Darren Criss (Glee). While 2017’s Lifetime Achievements were presented to Emmy-nominated make-up artist Leonard Engelman and Oscar and Emmy-nominated hair stylist Barbara Lorenz (La La Land).
“The night was a joy on every level, and we are all still celebrating!” said Cabral-Ebert “The emotional highlight of the evening was certainly Ryan Murphy’s wonderful acceptance speech and tribute to all makeup artists and hair stylists of the evening. His speech honored not only Lifetime Achievement Award winners, but the most outstanding work of our entertainment artisans. What an amazing night!”
Once again the industry’s most pro-focused companies supported the program in full force. MUAHS were proudly sponsored by: Diamond Sponsor: M.A.C. Cosmetics; Ruby Sponsor: Ardell Professional; Sapphire Sponsor
