This past Spring, Pro makeup artists, hair and fashion stylists and photographers had the opportunity to collaborate and be a part of The Makeup Show in LA and NYC Photo Contests. At each show, LA and NYC were centered around a specific theme, and pros were given the opportunity to create an image and a look that represents the show’s theme. LA’s theme was The Femme Fatale and NYC’s theme was David Bowie: Sound and Vision. Each show’s winning photo were on display and seen by the biggest names in the beauty industry, and received some of James Vincent’s makeup must-haves valued at thousands of dollars including product and resources, along with other sponsor prizes from The Powder Group, Crown Brush and MAKE UP FOR EVER.
The LA show photo contest theme, The Femme Fatale – The mystery and magic of the fatal female has been captured by camera since the days of silent film. Whether cast as the villain bringing ultimate disaster or the victim of a society that sees a strong independent woman as dangerous, our history of individualistic, ardent, compelling women in cinema is undeniable, and makeup has played a major role. Artist were asked to submit an image celebrating their interpretation of an iconic female heroine or most hated villain of the silver screen. LA’s Femme Fatale Photo Contest winner was Tobey Doran. Her winning entry entitled “Salander” was inspired by the Girl with The Dragon Tattoo leading femme fatale and chosen as the winner among the nine finalists.See Tobey’s winning entry below, followed by NYC’s winning image.
At the NYC Makeup Show this year’s theme honored the music legend David Bowie, through its theme, David Bowie: Sound and Vision – David Bowie dared to push boundaries in beauty, fashion and music. The rock star’s outlandish looks drew plenty of attention over the last 40 years and as Annie Lennox said in her tribute he will continue to influence as long as the Earth is spinning. For this photo contest, artist were asked to explore the ever-changing face and style of David Bowie, by creating a look inspired by Bowie’s music, films, and/or his many looks over the years. NYC’s David Bowie Sound and Vision winner was Valerie Quevillon, and her winning entry was entitled “Nanny Bowie”. See her winning image below.
